European Experience: Excessive gambling restrictions contribute to the growth of the shadow market

As part of efforts to combat gambling addiction, a number of European countries are introducing strict restrictions on the operations of legal gambling operators. However, instead of delivering a positive outcome for society, these measures often lead to the opposite effect - growth of the illegal sector, reduced tax revenues, and a loss of market control.
This was stated by Viktoriya Zakrevska, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Gambling Council for Communication, in her opinion column. She cites examples from EU countries, including the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, and Lithuania. Read more.
